Information About Fake Tanning

Happy girls are the prettiest.

Preparation

Exfoliation is one of the most important factors in preparing your skin for a spray tan. Thoroughly moisturise the day before your tan is to be applied. This is to remove dead skin and provide a smooth, new surface for your tan. Exfoliating helps to promote an even coverage and lengthens the duration of the tan. Make sure you pay particular attention to elbows, ankles and knees.

  • Shave or wax (to allow pores time to close) and moisturise the night before your application.
  • Refrain from eyelash tinting 12 hours before as it may react with the DHA.
  • Remove contact lenses during your session.
  • Remove make-up, moisturiser, perfume and deodorant before your application as these can act as a barrier.
  • Do not use highly moisturised soap.
  • Do not have a spray tan if you are pregnant or breast feeding (as a precaution).
  • Paint nails and toenails, especially if false.

It is recommended that you wear dark loose fitting clothing. Solution washes out of most clothing very easily but may stain nylon and lycra materials; therefore dark coloured underwear is recommended. Be careful after your tanning appointment of wearing long boots, as these can make your tan patchy on your legs, and avoid any tight fitting clothing. Try not to touch yourself during development time. I will show you your hands are clear of tan after treatment, any marks on your hands after this is due to touching the developing tan. Be aware that once this has developed nothing will remove it.

Aftercare

Leave your tan for at least 8 hours and overnight if possible, before showering or taking a bath. This allows your tan to develop.

  • Avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session as sweating can inhibit the development of your tan. Sandals are a good choice.
  • Avoid applying moisturisers or deodorants until after your first shower or bath.
  • Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 5 hours, as these will cause the tan to rub off during the developing stage.
  • All swimming, showering and vigorous exercise must be avoided for at least 5 hours as this can inhibit the development of your tan.
  • Do not shave until 12 hours after your treatment.
  • Do not sit on light coloured fabrics until you have showered or taken a bath as the colour guide can cause discolouration.

Remember. When you take a shower or a bath you will see some colour wash off. Don't worry. This is quite normal as it is only the colour guide that I use when the tan is applied. You will be left with a gorgeous tan.

Maintaining Your Tan

It is recommended you follow these general guidelines to maintain your tan:

  • Moisturise daily to extend the tan. Tan extender is recommended.
  • Avoid long hot baths and showers as these speed up exfoliation, which will fade the tan.
  • Avoid using high street soaps, shower gels or bubbles baths that contain parabens or sodium lauryl sulphates, as these will fade your tan more quickly.
  • It is advisable to wear washing up gloves as the hands are one of the first parts of the body where your tan will fade.
  • Pat your skin dry after a bath or shower. Rubbing your skin may rub off your tan.
  • Avoid swimming pools or sea water, as these can reduce your tan.
  • Remember that the tan does not have any SPF factor, so wear sun protection as usual.

FAQs

What are the benefits of having a spray tan?

Spraying by hand allows for a smooth, flawless application. Special care can be taken to avoid over application on problem areas such as knees, elbows, hair, blemishes and other skin afflictions that tend to absorb more colour. Spraying by hand with its inherent precision and flexibility is by far the application of choice

What about turning orange or streaking?

Spray tan technology virtually eliminates these issues. I am experienced in producing non-streaky tans and will ensure the right solution is chosen for your colouring. You will have a natural sun- kissed look and long-lasting results!

What should I wear?

I suggest old, dark underwear or a swimming costume/bikini, which you won't mind if it stains. Attire for men is boxer shorts, swimming trunks or shorts. Alternatively, I carry disposable briefs. You can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. I also provide protective hair nets and stickie feet.

How long will my tan last for?

With the correct preparation and aftercare your tan will last between 7-9 days. Remember, moisturising your skin is imperative if you want your tan to remain for the maximum amount of time.
